REPRESENTATIVE DRIEHAUS ANNOUNCES $560 MILLION AUTHORIZATION FOR JOINT STRIKE FIGHTER COMPETITIVE ENGINE ENACTED IN LAW

Driehaus Led Effort to Keep Competitive Engine Funding Intact

WASHINGTON, DC—Representative Steve Driehaus today praised enactment in law of the Fiscal Year 2010 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which authorizes $560 million for the Joint Strike Fighter Competitive Engine Program.  Rep. Driehaus has led the effort to ensure that authorization and funding for the competitive engine program remain intact.

President Obama signed the NDAA into law today.

“We learned from the ‘Great Engine War’ that a competitive engine program produces better quality equipment for our military at a lower cost to American taxpayers.  As the Joint Strike Fighter becomes central to our tactical air forces, the competitive engine program will help ensure that we are fully supporting our armed forces in a way that’s fiscally responsible,” said Rep. Driehaus.

Representative Driehaus has been a vocal supporter of the Joint Strike Fighter Competitive Engine Program.  He led a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers urging House leaders to include authorization and funding for 2010. In April, he was joined by 24 House members urging the President to support the program.
